Lead raw material processing plant launched in Akmola region
A lead-bearing raw materials processing plant, Open Minerals Group Processing LLP, has launched in Zerendinsky district of Akmola region at a revived industrial site.
7.4 billion tenge has already been invested in the project. At the next stage, they plan to produce crude lead, metallic antimony and copper concentrate here, the Akimat of Akmola Region reports.
The essence in brief
- The enterprise currently employs about 100 people and processes from 2 to 3 thousand tons of raw materials per month.
- About 6 thousand tons of lead cake and 350 tons of cementation copper have already been produced; the company's partners are Kazakhmys and Kazzinc.
- The new pyrometallurgical technology will allow producing up to 1 thousand tons of crude lead per month.
- Personnel are planned to be increased to 150 people, and production expanded within five years.
What is produced now
The enterprise processes lead-containing raw materials, that is, material from which lead can be extracted. Lead cake is an intermediate processing product from which metal is subsequently obtained, while cementation copper is copper precipitated from solutions. The products are in demand in domestic metallurgy; among the company's partners are Kazakhmys Corporation LLP and Kazzinc.
The launch took place on the eve of Republic Day with the participation of the region's akim Marat Akhmetzhanov. According to him, the enterprise fits into the task of moving from raw material extraction to deep processing and the production of high value-added products.
"By the 35th anniversary of our Republic, 10 new industrial facilities will open in the region," said Akhmetzhanov.
What is planned next
The further development of the site is linked to pyrometallurgical technology, that is, processing at high temperatures. It will allow producing up to one thousand tons of crude lead per month. Crude lead is a metal that still needs to be refined. In addition, the launch of production of metallic antimony and copper concentrate is envisaged. As the plans are implemented, the number of personnel will be increased from 100 to 150 people.
The processing of metallurgical waste, as emphasized in the akimat, allows valuable components to be extracted from it and returned to economic circulation, reducing the volumes of waste in storage. Production must comply with environmental standards and industrial safety requirements.
What the company is doing for the district
At its own expense, a children's playground, football and basketball fields and a sports area were arranged at the Azat station, and 6.4 km of roads were repaired in the village of Alekseyevka. Investors intend to participate in the restoration of the village, including the repair of residential buildings and the provision of housing for future employees. The company is also interested in cooperating with educational institutions in Kokshetau to train metallurgical specialists.
The launch is taking place against the backdrop of growing investment in the region. In 2025, the volume of investment in fixed capital of Akmola Region reached 926.9 billion tenge, 1.5 times more than a year earlier. For January-August 2026, the figure amounted to 521 billion tenge.
What this means for Kazakhstan
The enterprise fits into the policy of processing rather than exporting raw materials. Kazakhstan wants to move from selling rare earth raw materials to processing them, and the akim of Akmola Region calls the same task a priority for the region. For now, the site in Zerendinsky District produces intermediate products, but further plans include metals with higher added value.
Author's conclusion
The site in Zerendinsky District currently produces intermediate products, while metals such as crude lead and antimony are the next stage. It is worth watching the launch of the pyrometallurgical line and how the number of jobs will grow.
