What will happen to Kazakhstan if the US, China, and Russia become economic partners?
If the US, Russia, and China form a trade-economic union, Kazakhstan becomes a global crossroads. What will happen to it, and how can it make the most of this situation?
If we assume that the US, Russia, and China form a trade and economic alliance, Kazakhstan will find itself in the position of a global crossroads. The entire Eurasia will turn into a sphere of influence of the Trio, and we will have to make Kazakhstan an indispensable economic hub, without which they would feel uncomfortable. This can be achieved through several key areas.
Logistics Hub of Eurasia - The Trio needs Kazakhstan as a transit corridor between Europe, China, Russia, and the Middle East. Given that the Silk Road and the Northern Sea Route have their limitations, Central Asian logistics could become indispensable.
LOGISTICS
But for this, it is necessary to completely overhaul the railway infrastructure, including the construction of high-speed freight lines. For example, China - Europe via Kazakhstan in 7–8 days.
It is also necessary to create dry ports, container shipping hubs - like in Khorgos, but on an order of magnitude larger scale.
And to become the region's aviation center, turning Almaty, Karaganda, and Astana into international logistics hubs (similar to Dubai).
Kazakhstan needs to ensure that bypassing it becomes disadvantageous for the Trio, and any trade operations circumventing Kazakhstan become more costly and less efficient.
FINANCE
Financial Neutral Zone - If the US, China, and Russia grow closer, the global financial system will change. There will be a new center of power, an alternative to the current dollar-centric world. Kazakhstan could become a neutral platform where the Trio's currencies can be converted and transactions between its members can be serviced.
For this, it is necessary to create something like a Hong Kong in Eurasia - a tax-free financial zone.
Attract the largest banks and investment funds by offering legal protection and transaction anonymity (as Switzerland does). We have the beginnings of this in the form of the AIFC.
And develop cryptocurrency and digital financial platforms that operate on the border of US, Russian, and Chinese jurisdictions.
The Trio will be forced to use Kazakhstan as a neutral financial platform, which will strengthen its independence.
INDUSTRY
It is also possible to build deep processing plants for oil, gas, and metals (rather than just sending raw materials to China and Russia), develop nuclear energy and become a key fuel supplier for neighboring countries, and develop and sell green energy through Eurasian networks.
In any case, it is important to become a regional industrial center so that the economic value for the Trio increases and strengthens the negotiating position.
There are also more fantastical versions, such as creating innovation clusters, developing agricultural science, or a high-tech manufacturing zone (so that Kazakhstan becomes a supplier of fertilizers, microelectronics, pharmaceuticals, and robotics).
CONCLUSIONS
The main principle is that Kazakhstan must be too useful to be subjugated. If the country turns into a hub of global trade, finance, energy, and technology, it will be more profitable for the Trio to keep it as an independent partner rather than turning it into a mere raw materials appendage.
But for this, will and strategic thinking are needed. If Kazakhstan remains in the raw materials paradigm, it will simply dissolve within the Trio. If it chooses the model of Singapore or Switzerland, it could become a key player in the new geopolitical reality.
The choice lies with the elites and society; one could say there are all the chances to demonstrate passionarity.
